Federal Water Minister Tony Burke has announced his department is working on providing vital funding to South Australian irrigators for key infrastructure upgrades.

Mr Burke made the announcement at the Murray-Darling Basin Authority’s (MDBA) regional Renmark meeting earlier last week.

He gave assurances that the Government will assist hard pressed irrigators who have been conducting their own infrastructure upgrades while saying he was looking into how they could best benefit from Federal funding.

"While that is not resolved, please know that we've unlocked about half the New South Wales money and we've unlocked about half the Victorian money within a few months," Mr Burke said at the meeting.
