Grampians-Wimmera-Mallee Water (GWMWater) has announced that the full support of its irrigators in its bid to transfer 28,000 gigalitres of water to the Federal Government.

GWMWater Managing Director, Mark Williams said “this is a pleasing outcome and brings us close to being able to finalise the deal.”

There remain a number of administrative requirements to be completed. These requirements were stipulated by the Commonwealth Government as pre-conditions prior to any money being transferred to GWMWater and then distributed to irrigators.

“The most important of the Commonwealth Governments pre-conditions was that we demonstrate the support of all irrigators to the sale and we are now in a position to do this," Mr Williams said.

GWMWater has announced it believes the remaining pre-conditions are expected to be finalised over the coming weeks.

The finalisation of the deal brings to an end a four year ongoing process.

“The Wimmera Community will benefit more than $25 million as a result of the transaction”, Mr Williams said.
