Western Australian Environment Minister Bill Marmion has paid tribute to outgoing Swan River Trust chairman Jim Freemantle, praising him for his dedication and professionalism.

“Mr Freemantle helped guide the trust through major milestones, including the creation of the Swan Canning Riverpark, the launch of the Healthy Rivers Action Plan and the release of the draft River Protection Strategy,” Mr Marmion said.

“He brought extensive experience in banking and finance and has been a passionate advocate for both the rivers and the Swan River Trust.  Jim is to be commended for his service.”

Mr Marmion thanks Mr Freemantle for his eight years of service to the board before appointing deputy chairman Mick Poole as the board’s new chairman.

“Professor Poole wears the coveted Farrer Memorial Medal for his groundbreaking contributions to agricultural research in areas such as salinity control, weed control, sustainable cropping and crop production,” Mr Marmion said.

“He is also a Professorial Fellow of The University of Western Australia and a Fellow of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation.”
