Gas giant Santos is preparing plans for a water processing plant at the Narrabri Gas Project, which will provide irrigators with some extra supplies.

Santos says it will be able to treat one megalitre per day of CSG water from the Narrabri project to irrigation quality.

The company will submit a planning application later this month.

Using standard reverse osmosis techniques, Santos will produce water that is of an irrigation quality, but not to drinking quality standards.

Santos says it is still working on plans for the 50 tonnes of salt that the plant will produce each day.

It has also pledged to adhere to all regulatory guidelines from the NSW office of Coal Seam Gas and EPA.
