A new survey conducted for the Water Corporation’s Groundwater Replenishment Trial at Beenyup has found that three out of four people support moving to a full recycling scheme.

The trial, which runs until December 2012, involves treating wastewater to drinking water standards and recharging it to groundwater, potentially boosting Perth’s future water supplies.

State Water Minister Bill Marmion said it was the first time the corporation had tested support for a scheme beyond the trial and he was encouraged by the result.

“Of the 1,292 people who took part in the pulse survey, 79 per cent indicated support for a full scheme with 21 per cent opposed,” Mr Marmion said.

“It’s great news and consistent with what people have been telling me.  I rarely meet anybody who is against water reuse.”
