Water & Sewer Technician

Snowy River Shire Council is situated in the South East corner of New South Wales in the heart of the Snowy Mountains. 150 km south of Canberra, close to the Ski Fields and the South Coast, the area boasts fantastic year-round outdoor recreation with a rural lifestyle.
The Position
You will be responsible for the installation, maintenance and operation of water and sewerage schemes within Snowy River Shire including water and sewer mains, pump stations, reservoirs and treatment plants. As part of this role you will need to demonstrate a commitment to customer service, Council’s WHS policy in the workplace and compliance with relevant licences and legislation. Responding to emergency call outs and completion of necessary administrative duties also form part of the responsibilities of the position.
 
  Selection Criteria

  Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum two years experience in water and sewerage
  • Construction Induction White Card
  • Wastewater Treatment Certificate (NSW DPI Training Level 1 and 2)
  • NSW Department of Health Fluoride Operators Certificate
  • Water Treatment Plant Operator Certificate or commenced training
  • Certificate of competency in Excavator operation
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Current valid NSW Class 1 Drivers Licence - ongoing employment is conditional on maintaining this Licence

  Essential:

  • Knowledge of Operation and Maintenance of Treatment Plants
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Radio telemetry (use of pager, lap top computer)
  • Ability to utilise pipeline construction skills for the laying of water and sewer mains
  • Demonstrate analytical and problem solving techniques
  • Completed and/ or prepared to undertake confined spaces training courses including refreshers on a biannual basis
  • Physically fit to complete all aspects of the position

  Desirable:

  • Ability to maintain and service water and sewer pumps and similar type equipment
  • Ability to work and participate in a team environment
  • Commitment to work health and safety
  • Demonstrate awareness of the environmental issues that relate to the works undertaken In the role
  • Commitment to the improvement of work place practices and the introduction of new technology to improve productivity
  • Ability to work as directed by Supervisor, according to Council’s prescribed practices and Code of Conduct, with or without supervision
  • Driver Licence Class MR (Medium Rigid)

  Remuneration
  $27.39 p/h + Super – 76 hours over a nine day fortnight
