The Senior Research Officer (Shellfish Aquaculture) is part of the Aquatic Sciences Aquaculture Program within SARDI. The Senior Research Officer (Shellfish Aquaculture) is a key appointment in the Genetics, Reproduction and Biotechnology Subprogram and will conduct high quality research, and provide assistance in undertaking and managing research projects. The incumbent will coordinate and carry out research to develop and optimise hatchery techniques in the bivalve species (such as cockles, native oysters) under investigation at SARDI for various projects and produce spat required for field studies. The Senior Research Officer (Shellfish Aquaculture) will be responsible for laboratory based and on-farm trials, coordinating and assisting with the sample collections and analyses, and taking a lead role in report and manuscript preparation for the projects under the supervision of the Subprogram Leader. Supervision of technical staff and assisting in supervising post-graduate students, helping explore funding opportunities and develop new projects and providing support to the Subprogram Leader in project deliverables and scientific publications are part of the role.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

A PhD degree in aquaculture or equivalent with research experience is required.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

This is a contract position for up to 2 years and may be extended depending on project funding. Located at the SARDI Aquatic Sciences Centre. Occasional interstate and overseas travel to collaborate in research conducted with commercial collaborators and research partners will be required. Work outside normal business hours may be required. Possession of a current driver’s licence is essential. A senior first aid certificate is desirable.
