The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an Aquaculture Services Officer (Biotoxins) to be part of our South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) Division within PIRSA. The role reports to the Seafood Subprogram Leader.

The Aquaculture Services Officer (Biotoxins) is responsible for daily maintenance of aquaculture facilities and support of aquaculture activities focused on marine biotoxins at the South Australian Aquatic Biosecurity Centre (SAABC) at Roseworthy, following set operating procedures. This includes daily maintenance schedules for equipment at the aquaculture facility (pumps, airlines, chillers, heat exchangers and tanks), animal husbandry for a variety of seafood species (lobster, abalone and oysters), water quality analysis, and maintenance of algal cultures following documented procedures. The incumbent will also be required to complete some data entry, and provide assistance for associated scientific experiments. The role will be expected to work independently, with minimal supervision, following set protocols for biosecurity.

Special Conditions

This is a contract / term vacancy up to 30/11/2018. Possession of a current driver’s licence and a willingness to drive is required. Experience in systems maintenance and routine testing (preferably in an aquaculture setting) is required. Out of hours work and weekend work will be required.
