Water Treatment Plant Operator/Labourer

$54,833.84 per annum package - plus overtime

The Position
As the Water Treatment Operator you will work under remote supervision to monitor control and operate the Longreach Water Treatment Plant to maintain a safe and reliable water supply which complies with the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and the Water Supply (Safety and Reliability) Act 2008.

Periods of relief to assist Water Treatment Plant operations in Ilfracombe, Isisford and Yaraka may at times be required.

The successful applicant will be also responsible for assisting with a variety of activities associated with general maintenance and construction within Council’s Water and Sewerage Department.

Qualifications and Experience
Your duties will include providing support for activities at water treatment plant, including SCADA response and after-hours support for failures, carrying out regular sampling of raw and treated water at the water treatment plant and throughout the water supply and distribution systems to monitor and manage water quality and liaising with external Laboratory Services Branch for collection and analysis of samples for treatment plant monitoring.

You will also be required to report to the Water and Sewerage Supervisor on a regular basis on process performance and operational issues and by delegation from the Water and Sewerage Supervisor, issue work requests and provide direction and liaison for service providers to ensure that emergency and minor maintenance activities are completed as required at the water  treatment plant.

Salary and Conditions
The position is classified as a Local Government Employees (Excluding Brisbane City Council) Award - State 2003 from Level 5 depending on qualifications and offers a nine day fortnight, 4 weeks annual leave, an annual salary (including allowances and leave loading) of $50,133.68 plus on call payment of $295.17 per week when required.

Superannuation of up to 12% of salary is also available upon commencement.

Study assistance is available to an officer advancing their studies in local government related disciplines.
