About our team

Icon Water’s Engineering Services team is part of the Infrastructure Services Group and are looking for an engineer who has a passion for process safety to work on challenging and unique projects.

We have a 3 year opportunity for a Process Safety Engineer to join our team.

Reporting to the Senior Process Engineer, the Process Safety Engineer is responsible for process safety engineering support for the Engineering Services team across Icon Water assets, processes and projects. Process Safety Engineering support is provided through supporting implementation of the Process Safety Management framework, collating and reviewing process safety documentation required in accordance with the framework and undertaking investigations to improve process safety across treatment infrastructure

What are we looking for?

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in engineering (Chemical, Environmental or Mechanical) from a recognised university providing eligibility for Membership of Engineers Australia or industry equivalent
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the area of process safety; knowledge and experience in water/wastewater treatment processes will be looked on favourably
  • Knowledge of process safety risk management principles and/or an understanding of the Process Safety Management framework and the impact on water and wastewater treatment operations
  • High level of computer literacy, including data processing, spread sheet manipulation, database management and Microsoft Office packages
  • A current ACT Class C driver’s licence or the equivalent

A typical day on the job…

  • Collect and review process safety documentation data and statistics. Prepare internal and external reports and briefs relating to framework compliance requirements.
  • Provide continuous review and improvements of all process safety procedures, work instructions and check sheets.
  • Review and report on performance of treatment process facilities against process safety principles. 
  • Undertake specific trials and investigations into treatment processes, with respect to process safety, optimisation and performance improvements within treatment plants
  • Actively engage with major projects targeted at the improvement of process safety practices
  • Assist with the development of organisation-wide procedures to support and specify the conduct of process safety.
