Project Support Officer - Groundwater 

We are NSW’s bulk water supplier, river operator and your one-stop shop for licensing, water trades and water information.  We supply two thirds of water used in NSW from our 42 dams, rivers and pipelines to regional towns, irrigators, Sydney Water and local water utilities. We also own and operate the largest surface and groundwater monitoring network in the southern hemisphere and build, maintain and operate essential infrastructure.

Earlier this year, we ramped up our drought response efforts with the formation of the Drought Response Project Team. Since then, this team has been dedicating their time to working with regional stakeholders to secure water for critical needs.

With drought continuing to have a significant and prolonged impact, we are now looking to add to the team by recruiting a Project Officer Groundwater for a 12 month fixed term period.

About the role:

In a key support role to the team, you will review and map status of groundwater management systems across the state and put safety first. You will identify & develop an understanding of groundwater resources across the state and the availability of access during drought.

The role will be for a 12-month fixed term period and involve travel to our regional areas supporting our Drought Project Manager where you will focus on: 

  • Assist in drought planning, which is made public to our customers and communities. 
  • Assist key customers to gain access to ground water works, access licence accounts and trades.
  • Ensure support projects including auditing provisions confirm to timeframes, requirements and are delivered on time, cost and quality objectives.
  • Implement practical strategies, policies, procedures and tools for water delivery.

What you bring: 

With a resilient approach, you will enjoy working within a dynamic and ever-changing environment and have an energetic approach.

You have at least 3 years’ experience ideally with a background in groundwater, hydrological and/or hydraulic models.  You have knowledge and understanding of dewatering and groundwater controls of systems & processes to support analysis and data.

The ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner to a range of stakeholders, exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt to changing situations and environments. 

Your genuine passion for helping others and making a different to our customers during this time will be evident in everything you do, as will your ability to empathise and put yourself in their shoes.
