At Melbourne Water we love water and love life. What we do makes a vital contribution to Melbourne’s famous lifestyle. We achieve this by supplying high quality drinking water, providing outstanding sewerage services, integrating drainage systems, building resilience to flooding and by enhancing our waterway and land for greater community use. At Melbourne Water we are in the ‘Decade that Matters’ and we’ve got some ambitious goals to achieve. It’s a pride we share in helping to make greater Melbourne a fantastic place to live.

The Role

Reporting to the DSS Construction Assessment & Delivery Area Manager this role is responsible for assessing, managing and determining the civil engineering approvals, project management and financial reporting functions associated with the Asset Delivery phase of the Development Services Scheme (DSS).

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Engineer to join our Construction Assessment and Delivery Services (CADS) team. As a Senior Engineer, you will have the opportunity to apply your expertise in delivering the DSS assets. You will be tasked with negotiating and determining best practices in Waterway Design, Flood Resilience, Stormwater Re-use, and Quality to ensure that the DSS is delivered with the highest standard of Integrated Water Management (IWM).

Additionally, you will be working closely with the land development industry and private landowners to oversee the delivery of the DSS assets. You will be responsible for collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to investigate, design, plan and review the DSS assets.

Your Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate must be an engineer (such as civil, environmental, geotechnical) with a focus on floodplain management, waterway management, and drainage. An understanding of the land development industry and extensive experience in decision-making for complex Civil Engineering and Urban Planning related projects such as Wetland and Waterway Designs, Flood Resilience, Integrated Water Management, and Stormwater engineering is also desired.

If you have an understanding or background in construction management, detailed construction design experience, or registered with Engineers Australia this will be looked upon favourably.

The team requires a professional who can hit the ground running.  You bring a great deal of energy and initiative for your work which has been demonstrated in your previous roles.  This role will suit a person who comes to work, rolls up their sleeves, diligently responds to the work that comes in on their desk and is adaptable to the team’s needs.

With your ability to function independently and be team oriented, you have attention to detail, a high level of diligence in meeting tight deadlines, and can work well under pressure, when required. Given the workload we are expecting, you will need to be capable of establishing a sustainable pace of work.

You are known by your colleagues for your ability to build and engage with stakeholders which in this role will include developers, consultants, Councils, Melbourne Water asset owners and other Melbourne Water teams. At all times you hold yourself to a high ethical standard to ensure the best outcome for residence and the environment.  For this reason, your stakeholder engagement skills have led you to become a valued team member and contribute to the team’s reputation.

This role is pivotal in assessing civil engineering approvals in the new and emerging suburbs that will ensure the health of the waterways now and into the future. You are passionate about making an impact in the land development industry; this role will focus on the growth corridors of Melbourne’s western suburbs.

We welcome applicants who want to contribute to an exciting agenda from 2023 onwards, are motivated by a genuine sense of purpose in the work they do and are satisfied they are assisting Melbournians in the decade that matters.

This is a permanent role with a salary range of $105,602 to $111,413 + Super. Your commencing salary will depend on the skills and experience you will bring.  There may be a minimum requirement to travel to other sites.
