The Department of Planning & Environment is the lead NSW Government agency in planning for a growing NSW. The Department is going through an exciting period of organisational and operational change.

The Department’s two related agencies - the Office of Environment & Heritage and the Office of Local Government - support the conservation and protection of the environment and an effective local government sector in NSW. Several other entities associated with the Department include the Environment Protection Authority, statutory trusts responsible for zoos, parks and gardens, independent assessment and planning bodies, and development corporations.
Conservation and Regional Delivery Division provides integrated and customer focused services at the regional and local level to strengthen environmental conservation across NSW. This Division has responsibility for delivering state-wide conservation programs and includes services, programs and grants for threatened species, environmental water management, planning, coast, estuary and floodplain management, community engagement, compliance and enforcement.
About the Role:
In the role you will be implementing biodiversity and cultural heritage compliance and audit programs within the South East region of NSW. Working closely with stakeholders and colleagues, you will be managing complex compliance investigations, striving for positive environmental outcomes and contributing to the development and implementation of best practice and innovative conservation programs. You will be mentoring staff, undertaking critical decision-making and ensuring a safe and productive work environment whilst also being supported to pursue career goals in a collaborative team.
Primary purpose of the role
To implement a robust and credible compliance and audit program and contribute to the development and implementation of best practice and innovative environmental and conservation programs.
Essential requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in the delivery of complex compliance and governance programs, audits and investigations.
- Experience in developing, implementing and monitoring operational plans for the delivery of complex programs, with a demonstrated track record of providing program direction and achieving results.
- Experience in implementing work health and safety provisions for field- based staff.
- Hold ISO 19011 auditor certification or similar, or have capacity to obtain such certification within 3 months of commencement in this role.
- As this role carries a high degree of decision making, and requires a significant level of integrity when conducting regulatory and compliance activities a Criminal History Check is a requirement of this role.
- Current Class C Drivers' Licence
To be successful in the role, ideally you will have:
- A working knowledge of regulation and/or compliance frameworks.
- An understanding of key natural resource management frameworks relating to land, water and biodiversity.
- A track record of working with or within governments and other organisations to achieve positive outcomes.
