The Bureau of Meteorology is seeking a dedicated, highly talented professional to fill the role of the Agriculture & Water Decision Support Team Leader. A successful candidate would relish the challenge of working in an environment which is focused on providing the best support to the Agriculture and Water Sectors to enable decision makers to mitigate risks and maximise opportunities. The Agriculture & Water Decision Support Team Leader will report initially to the Agriculture Services Manager and will build a team initially consisting of three - five staff within direct line management, and virtual links to partner organisations that manage extension officers.

The Agriculture & Water Decision Support Team Leader will be responsible for setting up systems, processes and partnerships that enable the Agriculture & Water Decision Support team to thrive. This will involve building relationships with other operational teams within the Bureau, developing processes to source the best available expertise, forecasts and insights across weather, water and climate, and leading the development of tailored products and services for agricultural and water customers. Working closely with the existing Agriculture & Water Customer Leads, they will lead the development and documentation of weather, climate and water hazards and opportunities with respect to different agricultural sectors, regions and seasons. They will manage contracts, human resourcing, and the professional development requirements of the team to enable them to deliver a high-quality service to customers.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have experience in meteorology, climatology or hydrology
  • Proven leadership attributes
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor your message to different audiences
  • Exposure to the agriculture, water or natural resource industries
