As part of our development planning team you will facilitate the implementation of road, drainage (inclusive of water sensitive treatment regimens) and ancillary works as part of the Subdivision Construction process, and ensure that developments are in accordance with Council requirements and standards.

The role:

This permanent, full-time position involves:

  1. Analysing and evaluating submitted engineering documentation including drawings and specifications relating to all private subdivisional development to confirm compliance with relevant Council standards.
  2. Analysing and evaluating submitted drainage and WSUD computations to ensure compliance with Council requirements.
  3. Overseeing construction of approved subdivisional works in accordance with Council standards including monitoring of safe construction techniques and procedures.
  4. Liaising with developers, consultants, contractors and statutory authorities and providing authoritative advice on Council standards and requirements.
  5. Liaising and directing activities of Council subdivision inspection staff, including the provision of specialized WSUD advice.
  6. Monitoring quality control of construction works.
  7. Ensuring compliance with planning permit conditions including payment of required monies prior to release of titles for subdivisions.
  8. Providing an effective mentorship/coaching role that shares technical knowledge and experience with respect to WSUD to less experienced members of the team.

Who we’re looking for …

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  1. A tertiary Degree in Civil or Environmental engineering recognised by the Institute of Engineers Australia.
  2. Extensive experience in and detailed knowledge of the design, construction and maintenance of WSUD infrastructure.
  3. Sound knowledge of best practice WSUD guidelines (e.g. Melbourne Water’s Wetland Design Manual, CRC for Water Sensitive Cities’ Adoption Guidelines for Stormwater Biofiltration Systems) and demonstrated experience in their application.
  4. Knowledge and ability to operate a range of complex engineering software, including high competency with MUSIC and RORB.
  5. Demonstrated ability to problem solve and think laterally to come up with innovative solutions to difficult problems.
  6. Significant experience in applying theoretical engineering principles in examining engineering documentation for subdivisional plans.
  7. Ability to liaise and communicate effectively with professional engineers and people of similar disciplines in the administration of defined activities.
  8. Exceptional interpersonal skills including ability to translate technical information into plain English.
