About the Role
Reporting to the Safety and Security Manager Port of Esperance, the Senior OHS Advisor will provide health and safety advice for Southern Ports - Esperance personnel including but not limited to Staff, Contractors, Leaseholders, Licensees and other Port Users. Accountabilities and functions will include developing, implementing, promoting and continually improving the Port’s OHS Management Systems to reduce or eliminate OHS hazards and risks. The Senior OHS Advisor  will be responsible for ensuring regulatory and legislative requirements are met in line with the direction set by the Safety and Security Manager.
 
Key Duties
  • Provide hands-on safety leadership to develop an OHS culture in alignment with Southern Ports values
  • Assist with facilitation, and where required, conduct risk assessments and job hazard analyses for new / existing Port activities
  • Assist in developing operation-specific OHS Systems, implementation of procedures and standards to meet Southern Ports OHS Management Plan
  • Ensure compliance with statutory obligations and corporate OHS policy and standards
  • Conduct regular safety interactions with all work areas
  • Regularly compile, interpret and report to the Safety and Security Manager relevant statistical data
  • Genuine care in the interest of OHS and improving behaviour culture
Experience and Requirements
  • Certificate or Diploma of WH&S or similar
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
  • Extensive experience in a comparable role
  • Familiarity in an industrial work environment or mining
  • Knowledge of safety review processes and management of hazards
  • Strong understanding of the Mines Safety Inspection Act
  • Auditing capability
  • Investigation experience such as ICAM or similar
  • Understanding of Injury Management and Return to Work processes
  • Demonstrated involvement in Emergency Response / mine rescue and to be an active member
  • Desirable surface ventilation knowledge
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, including report writing
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate
 
To be eligible for a permanent role, applicants must reside in or be willing to relocate to Esperance and provide proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
 
The successful applicant must have a current WA driver’s licence, be able to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Access Card and undergo a pre-employment medical assessment including drug and alcohol testing.
