What you can accomplish in the role

As part of the TropWATER Freshwater Ecology Group you will contribute to the new & rapidly evolving area of molecular genetics by applying environmental DNA analysis to detect the occurrence of species in water bodies through the genetic analysis of water and/or soil samples. This can be achieved by utilising your experience and specialist expertise in the field of eDNA genetics.

What you will bring to the role

You will bring either a PhD or (as a minimum) a Bachelor’s degree with at least 6 years of professional experience in a related field. It is essential to have molecular genetic skills with the ability to apply theoretical and practical expertise to the identification of DNA presence of aquatic species in water and soil samples. You may also bring a strong research background or a more applied background. 

Your skills in primer probe design, quantitative PCR and relevant statistical analysis as well as skills in next-generation sequencing and development of bioinformatic pipelines will ensure your success in the role.
