The Centre for Tropical Water and Aquatic Ecosystem Research (TropWATER) is Australia’s premiere tropical aquatic research group and is an amalgamation of aquatic expertise from across James Cook University (JCU). The Centre comprises of over 150 staff and 100 post-graduate students and performs research in fields related to water science, resource management and the ecology of water ecosystems. 

TropWATER now has an opportunity for a Senior Research Worker to join the team on a full-time; fixed term basis to January 2024. Remuneration at HEWL 6 $77,237 - $83,656 per year + up to 17% superannuation contributions. The position is located at the Townsville Bebegu Yumba Campus, in the spacious and modern Australian Tropical Sciences and Innovation Precinct (ATSIP). 

What you can accomplish in the role

The Senior Research Worker provides high-level support and advice for the operations of TropWATER’s research contracts and consultancies. The incumbent will work as part of a team supporting the delivery of project milestones for TropWATER’s Environmental DNA (eDNA) Research Group.

What you will bring to the role

The Senior Research Worker will have a Degree qualification in Science or related field with subsequent experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and/or training. The incumbent will also have demonstrated experience with leading field trips or other logistical operations including eDNA field work and laboratory procedures.
