Sydney Water says bills will be lower following the release of its Price Proposal 2020-24.

The proposal should see the average customer’s bill decrease by about $45 dollars.

“Sydney Water is committed to putting customers at the heart of the business, which is why we’re proposing to lower water bills, following on from a bill decrease last price path,” said Sydney Water managing director Kevin Young.

Sydney Water has plans to invest more than $4.5 billion to ensure Greater Sydney is future fit, including expanding and renewing networks to keep pace with growth.

Mr Young says $5.4 billion will be invested to maintain and operate the existing network and continue to provide reliable essential services for our customers.

The proposal sets a platform to support government plans for a water resilient Greater Sydney through greater recycling of water, which can help reduce the demand on the water supply.

“Sydney Water is setting the foundations for the future which requires us to do water differently and this proposal is the next step in planning and delivering a new water model,” Mr Young said.

“Over the next 25 years we will be looking to more than double our water recycling to more than 80 gigalitres a year – or 80 billion litres.”

“Water plays a vital role to our city and that’s why this proposal will help support the Greater Sydney Commission’s Metropolis of Three Cities vision that is liveable, productive, sustainable and thriving.”

Sydney Water is also proposing a number of water efficiency measures including on-going investment to increase our front-line staff to respond to and reduce leaks and breaks, and investigate technologies for our assets, homes and businesses.

Sydney Water’s Price Proposal 2020-24 will now be reviewed with prices set by IPART for 1 July 2020.

The Price Proposal will be available shortly on IPART’s website.
