Melbourne Water has announced that consultation for a major sewer upgrade in Alphington and Kew will begin next week with the first of a series of information sessions held for residents in the coming weeks.

Melbourne Water has announced plans to replace a 1.7 kilometre section of one of Melbourne’s oldest sewer network areas, starting late next year.

The original brick-lined sewer, which services 85,000 properties, is in a poor condition after nearly a century of use.

Melbourne Water project spokesperson, Phil Corluka said the project team would work closely with the community throughout the three-year project.

“We have already met one-on-one with a number of residents who live near the project alignment,” Mr Corluka said.

“We are now inviting the wider community to meet the project team and learn more about the works and some of the likely impacts.

“We will be asking for feedback on truck access and the use of open spaces during the works.

“This feedback will be used to minimise the impacts of the works where we can.”

The new sewer will be built at depths of up to 21 metres underground from Coate Park in Alphington to the Latrobe Golf Course. It will connect to another section of sewer main being built near the Eastern Freeway in Kew that crosses the Yarra River into Alphington.

Three community information sessions will be held in November:
Monday, November 12 (6pm – 8pm) at the Alphington Bowling Club in Alphington
Tuesday, November 20 (6pm – 8pm) at the Latrobe Golf Club in Alphington
Monday, November 26 (6pm – 8pm) at the Fairfield Canoe Club in Fairfield
