The Western Australian Government has announced that construction on the Manjimup to Bridgetown Regional Water Supply Scheme (BRWSS) link has begun.

The Water Corporation will construct 49 kilometres of pipeline, predominatgely in road reserves and existing power transmissions corridors, to link Manjimup to the BRWSS.

State Water Minister Bill Marmion said the State Government project was expected to be completed by winter 2013, and provide the town with its own insurance policy of a reliable water source.

“Manjimup and Philips Creek dams will continue to be the two main water sources, and the link is an extra layer of water security on top of these,” he said.

“Thanks to the co-operation of local shires, other stakeholders and landholders, the corporation will be able to deliver this pipeline five months earlier than I previously announced.”

The pipeline link follows a $1.5million Water Efficiency Program recently launched by the Water Corporation in Manjimup and Bridgetown that is expected to save about 150 million litres of water a year.

“More than 500 local households have already signed up to take part in the program to reduce their water use and I encourage everyone to give it a go,” the Minister said.
