Questions have been asked about the details of Melbourne Water's Maribyrnong River flood review.

Melbourne Water says it has been running an independent inquiry into 2022’s Maribyrnong flood, which saw homes and businesses in Melbourne's west inundated as the river rose.

Documents obtained by the ABC through Freedom of Information requests appear to shed light on discussions that occurred between Melbourne Water and its insurer, as well as the state government, regarding the parameters of the review.

They suggest potential adjustments to the terms of reference for the flood review based on input from the insurer.

It comes as flood victims continue to question the true autonomy of the review process.

Melbourne Water’s review has been beset by complications, including the resignation of former inquiry chair Nick Wimbush due to perceived conflicts of interest.
