The Northern Territory Government has announced it will conduct a comprehensive review of the state-owned Power and Water Corporation, after findings emerged that showed it to be in dire financial straights.

The review has been announced as a response to the corporation’s growing debt levels and the Government’s doubts over its commercial and financial viability.

Treasurer Robyn Lambley said the review will be conducted in conjunction with the Power and Water Board and management.

“The review is a chance for the Corporation to identify and prioritise finances and profitability without compromising safety, service standards and operations,” Mrs Lambley said.

“It is also an opportunity for staff and key stakeholders to provide any suggestions.

“The review will report on potential changes in relation to the structure, governance, operations and policies of Power and Water, including its status as a vertically integrated electricity, water and sewerage service provider.

The review will be conducted by NERA Economic Consulting in partnership with Marchment Hill Consulting.
