Parks Victoria CEO Bradley Fauteux has been sacked over allegations of inappropriate conduct.

Victoria’s Environment Minister Lily D'Ambrosio says Mr Fauteux was asked to resign this week, and that the Independent Broad-based Anti-Corruption Commission (IBAC) will be brought in to investigate the allegations.

Chair of the Parks Victoria board Andrew Fairley said Mr Fauteux was sacked “as a result of unacceptable conduct in relation to integrity”.

He said the former CEO breached Parks Victoria’s ethics policy and public sector code of conduct.

“This constituted a significant failure by him in fulfilling duties and obligations to Parks Victoria as the CEO,” Mr Fairley said in a statement.

Mr Fauteux had only been in the top job at Parks Victoria since August last year, after a career spent largely with parks services in Canada.

In an interview with Fairfax Media in December 2015, he said Parks Victoria could be called the "department of fun".

Parks Victoria's chief legal counsel Margaret Gillespie is now acting chief executive while the search to find a replacement for Mr Fauteux is underway.
