Melbourne Water has announced that Shaun Cox will become the new Managing Director.

Mr Cox has over 20 years’ experience in the water industry, having headed water authorities in both Queensland and Victoria. He is currently the Managing Director of  South East Water

Chairman of Melbourne Water, Eleanor Underwood, said Mr Cox would bring a wealth of knowledge in integrated water management to help with the challenges and opportunities facing Melbourne.

“Shaun has a strong background in large-scale water and sewage services, as well as a passion for innovation and sustainability,” said Ms Underwood.

“Delivering excellent customer service and value for money are critical to Melbourne Water, and Shaun will focus on strengthening links with local councils, industry stakeholders and the broader community to help do this.”

The appointment of Mr Cox follows a national search and comes after the announcement by current Managing Director, Rob Skinner, of his departure after six years.

“Rob dealt with some of the biggest urban water challenges Melbourne’s ever faced, including our driest period in recorded history,” Ms Underwood said.

“Rob’s leadership in times of uncertainty has been outstanding and his commitment to a more sustainable water future for Melbourne will remain central.”

Mr Cox starts as Managing Director on 9 March 2011.
