Residents have welcomed the completion of a $5 million pipeline project in Tasmania.

New infrastructure now connects the town of Pioneer to a reliable source of treated drinking water.

The town now proudly boasts taps that flow with water from TasWater's extended Ringarooma Valley Water Scheme, which already serves neighbouring towns in the region.

The initiative involved not only extending the water main from Winnaleah but also installing an entirely new reticulated network throughout Pioneer. After undergoing rigorous testing, the water received a resounding seal of approval, guaranteeing its quality and safety.

Acting CEO of TasWater, Tony Willmott, expressed his immense satisfaction in completing the project for the Pioneer community, saying; “It's a great day for Pioneer locals and visitors as they can turn on the taps and have access to some of the best drinking water in the world. I've met with residents several times over the years, and I know what a difference this will make to them”.

TasWater says it remains committed to providing high-quality and affordable services to its customers, and the completion of this venture ensures that Pioneer residents can now have full confidence in their water supply.

Mayor Greg Howard of Dorset Council also expressed his satisfaction, saying; “Council is thrilled that Pioneer is finally connected to safe drinking water after what has been a rather lengthy process. We would like to congratulate the contractors for their conduct during construction and their ability to minimise disruptions to residents and the town.”

The development is part of TasWater's ongoing 10-year, $1.84 billion capital investment program, set to be completed by the end of the 2025-26 fiscal year.
