The Western Australian Government has reiterated its calls for the state’s citizens to apply for the water tank rebate, before the scheme comes to a close at the end of May.

State Water Minister Terry Redman said the program, which commenced late last year, had been well received by the local community.

“The response to the Rainwater Rewards program has been positive, with 24 customers taking part in the program so far,” Mr Redman said.

“There are only a limited number of rebates available and I urge residents who are thinking about installing a rainwater tank to get their application in now to avoid disappointment.”

Rainwater Rewards was introduced as a way to encourage residents to save water and help sustain the long-term water supplies in the Warren-Blackwood area.

Recent studies in the region indicate that a 2,000 litre rainwater tank can reduce a local household’s scheme water use by more than 10 per cent.

The rebate of up to $1,000 for a plumbed-in rainwater tank is available to residents connected to the Bridgetown Regional Water Supply Scheme, including the towns of Manjimup, Bridgetown, Nannup, Balingup, Boyup Brook, Greenbushes, Hester, Kirup and Mullalyup and nearby towns, Northcliffe and Quinninup.
