The WA Government will soon start work on close to $11 million in water infrastructure upgrades.

Projects to improve water supplies in Western Australia's Wheatbelt will soon see the installation and replacement of underground pipelines at Narembeen and Koorda.

The upgrade will connect the hundreds of residents of these rural communities to larger water schemes, in an effort to provide more certainty of supply.

The underground work will occur alongside another $32 million from WA’s farmlands water supply project.

That project aims to reduce the rate of leaks and breaks on 7,800 kilometres of the farmlands water supply network.

Work includes replacing more than 64 kilometres of pipeline and repairing 7,500 pipeline joints.

One phase will see above-ground pipelines in Narembeen replaced, so that they will no longer overheat in summer.

The Wheatbelt work should be completed in coming months, while the Koorda projects are due to wrap up by the end of the year.
