WaterNSW wants feedback on a new plan for inter-valley trade (IVT) between the Murrumbidgee and Murray systems.

WaterNSW runs the administration and management of the trade processes that facilitate the IVT.

It says that changes in water usage patterns, increased and more sophisticated approaches to water trading, and the changing expectations of water market participants have necessitated a review into the current arrangements for receiving and processing these trade applications.

The authority has put out a new paper as a first step towards addressing known challenges with the IVT, which are recognised by water market participants and, most recently, the ACCC in its water markets inquiry.

With public feedback, WaterNSW says it wants the review to lead to improved transparency and application processes for water users and market participants.
