West Soil & Water is a specialist, independent environmental consultancy based in Western Australia with over 13 years’ experience. Our focus is on offering services to our clients in contaminated site investigations, soil and water testing and acid sulfate soils and site assessments throughout WA. We work with private landowners, commercial & industrial businesses, property, resources and government sectors to find practical and cost-effective solutions to environmental projects.

About the role:

As part of our growth and to service our projects in hand, we are seeking a Contaminated Land Consultant to enhance the businesses capabilities. This role provides an opportunity to work directly with the business owner and gain valuable industry experience, during a growth phase of the business.

The role will be full time and will provide the successful candidate the opportunity to gain further experience in contaminated sites and related investigations. It would suit someone with junior experience or a graduate with the right attitude and qualifications. 

Your responsibilities will encompass all aspects of consulting, including proposal and bid preparation, hands-on field programs, engaging with our clients, report writing and assisting with the successful delivery of projects. 

To succeed in this position, you will need to have:

  • excellent communication skills.
  • Competency in the use of Windows based systems.
  • a positive, proactive attitude to tackle a wide variety of projects.
  • be willing to continue learning and be committed to professional development.
  • 1-3+ years of environmental experience.
  • Demonstrable technical report writing and data management skills.
  • Ability to operate independently within the field, both in metropolitan locations and remotely with potential for extended remote field work;
  • Full legal working rights in Australia and a C class License.
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental science or a related field.

The role will encompass report writing, field work, data management and critical analysis. While training and support is provided, the successful candidate will have a proactive attitude towards problem solving and be willing to actively search for solutions within relevant resources and further their learning.

It is expected that you can confidently write reports and expand on your knowledge. Training will be provided, under the expectation you will work towards attending client sites for the purpose of sample collection independently, and ensure all relevant data records are collected, and recorded as instructed.

The following are highly desirable for potential applicants:

  • Demonstrated field skills related to soil logging, water quality monitoring, asbestos identification, and acid sulfate soils.
  • Ability to process and interpret contaminated sites data against relevant guidelines.
  • Ability to work with contractors and other specialist disciplines to provide pragmatic solutions.
  • Proven project management and report writing skills.

You will be working under the guidance and assisting the senior staff on our project work.  As you gain experience, you may be managing your own clients and projects. This will involve a variety of projects in metropolitan Perth, the Pilbara and the south-west of WA.  You will be expected to work outside of Perth (generally in regional WA) from time to time, although typically not on roster work.  Our project work outside the Perth area typically lasts for between a day and a week, with occasional longer-term projects. 

On the job learning will be a priority, however, we may put you through training courses as is appropriate.
