EL1 Science Strategy Development

This role is part of the Strategic Science and Partnerships team within Science Acquisition.

This team:
  • leads science to policy integration across the BSK portfolio particularly for the Agencies plan review,leads science strategy for the Agency and leads the secretariat for the Advisory Committee for
  • Social, Economic and Environmental Sciences andprovides expert social analysis to inform Authority decisions and support engagement on the social impacts of water policy and water management in the Basin.
  • The team works closely and collaboratively with experts, policy and engagement leads across the Agency and provides strategic advice to Executive on social policy matters while also engaging with Peaks and community and leading integrated work to support that engagement.
Your key responsibilities in this role are to
  • Lead insights and development of briefing material for decision makers on broader scienceopportunities and the science need to meet future water policy, particularly Basin Plan requirements
  • Lead analysis of the Agency suite of science programs that contribute to Basin-scale water policy and planning with science program managers
Tailor a science strategy product that shows an understanding of the linkages between the science program and policy across the Agency, provides clarity for decision makers and outlines opportunities for future funding, collaboration and partnerships.
  • Represent the Agency and engage with external stakeholders including Commonwealth agencies,
  • jurisdictions and communities
  • Contribute to team leadership in Strategic Science and Partnerships. Prepare written material for internal and external audiences
Capabilities

The following capabilities and attributes are required:
  • Understands the role of science in policy and government contexts ideally with an understandingof how this applies to water policy
  • Experience in leading briefing, managing governance and delivering reporting requirements in a
  • government context
  • Experience in developing and sustaining relationships with a network of key people internally and externally to engage and collaborate to achieve outcomes and facilitate co-operation
  • Understands the organisations objectives and aligns and delivers operational activities
  • accordingly
  • Understands the inter-jurisdictional nature of the organisation’s work program, particularly water policy and the Agencies Plan
  • An ability to think critically, assess scientific research and associated data and sound judgement.
  • Ability to manage a small team and successfully harness the skills of team members
  • Consults and shares information and ensures others are kept informed of issues
  • Seeks to understand the audience and tailors communication style and message accordingly
