Science Communicator

3 year fixed-term full time position
Salary: $78,893 - $100,241 plus 17 percent superannuation

This is an exciting new position that supports the implementation of the NESP Northern Australia Environmental Resources (NAER) Hub programme. Based at Charles Darwin University’s Research Institute for the Environment and Livelihoods (RIEL) you will apply your journalism skills to develop and coordinate a suite of communication products and media activities that assist decision-makers to understand, manage and conserve Australia’s environment by funding world-class biodiversity and climate science.

The Research Institute for the Environment and Livelihoods (RIEL) is a Tier One research institute within the School of Environment that consolidates CDU’s environmental research and postgraduate training across the natural, social and spatial sciences. RIEL offers excellence in research, scoring at or above world class in seven discipline areas in the Commonwealth Governments 2015 Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) initiative.

Working closely with the Knowledge Broker and Hub Leader, the Science Communicator will have Tertiary qualifications (or equivalent) in scientific or technical communications, journalism, media, or similar disciplines and significant relevant experience. You will have highly developed written and oral communication skills with a proven ability to clearly and effectively translate scientific language into targeted communication products. Extensive experience and knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of programs, Adobe creative suite, desktop publishing, and at least basic graphic design skills.
